Just like luxury fashion designers seek to protect their designs, so do luxury watch brands of their timepieces. TorrentFreak first broke the story that websites and web platforms are marketing imitation watch faces bearing trademarks of Richemont, Tag Heuer, Rolex, Michael Kors, Armani, Mondaine, Fossil, Swatch and the list goes on. The brands have partnered to cracked down on the copyists and they want the designs removed.
According to TorrentFreak, the watch makers are currently sending cease and desist letters to those websites that have used their likeness as digital watch faces for free. Richemont (Cartier) has already sent out demand letters to several watch face sites with a 24 hour demand to remove designs that infringe its trademark. The Swatch Group (Omega) also sent out cease and desist letters demanding its faces be removed on the grounds of “registered trademark, copyright and design rights.” According to reports, the designs have been removed.
